Elsie Lois Mattson, age 89 of Bay City, WI, passed away May 6, 2021 at the Heritage of Elmwood.  Elsie was born April 29, 1932 in Lostwood, ND to Peter and Margaret (Heppner) Unruh.  She graduated from Warroad High School, with the Class of 1950.  After high school, she attended Grace Bible Institute.  On November 14, 1957, Elsie was united in marriage to Melvin Louis Mattson.  Their lives were blessed with three children, Terry, Cynthia and Dwight.  Elsie lovingly cared for her family and worked on the farmstead with Melvin.

Most important to Elsie was her faith and her family.  She was a devoted and active member of the Plum City Evangelical Free Church.  Her heart was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends.  Elsie enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her lawn and gardens.  In her quiet time, she delighted in capturing special family memories by scrapbooking and creating photo albums, as well as coloring and working on crossword puzzles.  A gentle and quiet spirit, Elsie will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Elsie is survived by her children, Terry (Barb) Mattson of Bay City, Cynthia (Kurt) Sundquist of Ellsworth and Dwight Mattson of Bay City; grandsons:  Tyler (fiancé, Andrea) Mattson, Troy (Laura) Mattson, Trey Mattson, Trentyn Mattson and Kyle Sundquist; great-grandchildren, Thaddaeus and Liviana Mattson; sisters, Viola Pankratz and Sylvia Nisle.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; and her parents, Peter and Margaret Unruh.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the Plum City Evangelical Free Church, 501 1st St., with Pastor Philip Bloomdahl officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will take place at the Sabylund Lutheran Cemetery in Stockholm.  Elsie’s grandsons have the honor as pallbearers.
