Elva Dahlby

Elva Ione Dahlby, age 93 of Hudson, passed away August 13, 2013 at the Christian Community Home of Hudson.  Elva was born January 6, 1920 on the Nord family farm, near Willow River just northeast of Hudson; the daughter of Fred and Mary (Thorene) Nord.  Elva attended Hudson High School.  She was united in marriage on November 23, 1940 in Hudson to Gordon J. Dahlby.  Their marriage, which spanned 66 years, was blessed with three children, Darryl, Eugene and Susan.  Elva was a homemaker who cherished her time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She loved antiquing, trout fishing, flower gardening and blackcap picking.  Elva was a wonderful cook and baker, and was known for her delicious angel food cakes, blackcap pies, krum-kaka and swedish pancakes.  She enjoyed her road trips to Nova Scotia, Texas, Florida and throughout the United States, especially the North Shore of Lake Superior, Grand Marais and Door County.  Elva was blessed to be able to live in her house for 70 years, with the help of her wonderful neighbors and children until she lost her eye sight from glaucoma and moved in with her daughter, Susan.  

Elva is survived by her children, Darryl Dahlby of Osceola, Eugene (Linda) Dahlby of Hudson and Susan (Christopher) Watters of Hudson; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; parents, Mary and Fred Nord; brothers, Hugo, Mark, Alton, Eugene and Lloyd; infant sister, Vendla; sisters, Luella, Vendla, Marie and Pearl.  

A Prayer Service Reflecting on Elva’s Life will take place 11:30 AM Friday, August 16, 2013 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will immediately follow at Willow River Cemetery of Hudson.  Pallbearers assisting with the services are:  Chad Watters, Marcus Watters, Jim Dahlby, Thomas Meister, Garrett Johnson and Duriel Johnson.  Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson (715) 386-3725
