Ernest Alfred Huland, age 82, of Stillwater, MN died unexpectedly November 6, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Stillwater, MN. Ernest was born January 6, 1938 in Evansville, Illinois.  Parents were Elizabeth and Alfred Huland from Wausau, WI and originally from Germany.  Ernest was an energetic conversationalist, an avid reader of history and religious books, and also did considerable volunteering on church issues.  He graduated from Greenville High School in Illinois, served in the U.S. Navy and went on to earn a B.S. degree from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.  He taught German and English in both Tomahawk, WI; D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, WI; and Wisconsin Indianhead Area Technical College, River Falls, WI.  He went on to be Director of Education in Wausau Insurance Company, Wausau, WI.  Later in life he served as a CNA in Wausau, Rhinelander, and Hudson, WI. 

Ernest is survived by loving wife, Bonita Huland; sisters Grace Maubach (Charlotte, NC) and Esther Lloyd (Atlanta, GA).  Three children, Michele Howard (Bristow, VA); Matthew Huland (Columbus, OH), and David Huland (Woodridge, VA); cousin Dr. Charles Heuss (Antigo, WI); Dr. Eric Neumeyer (Tomahawk, WI); Charlotte Abadeer (Wausau, WI); Trudy Fafashea (Toronto, CA).  Ernie is preceded by his first wife, Ruth Huland, and his cousin, Dr. John Neumeyer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26 at the O’Connell’s Funeral Home Chapel in Hudson, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks and social distancing required. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
