Errol F. Gooding age 83, of Baldwin, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26th, 2023. Errol was born to Bert and Verna (Hartwig) Gooding in Wheaton, Minnesota.
Errol grew up on a family farm in Wheaton, Minnesota, where he became a hard worker at an early age. He tended to the crops and cared for his family. After graduation from high school in Wheaton, Errol entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a sharpshooter, as well as a shooting instructor for two years. Upon his military discharge he returned to farming for about four years. He then went to work in North Oaks, Minnesota with Bill Wunderlich, a national Field Dog trainer.
Errol and Hilda (Winter) were married on December 7th, 1961 and spent much of their time together. He and Hilda moved to Wisconsin where Errol continued his work and went to college at UW-River Falls for Business Administration. Errol then began his work in nursing homes as an administrator. He was the administrator at nursing homes in Glenwood City, Hammond, and New Richmond, Wisconsin.
In 1974, Hilda and Errol bought property north of Baldwin. Here they built a kennel and hunt club, returning Errol to his original love and desire. The house site and twenty acres became Good-Go-Ing Kennels, which is still in operation today. Both Errol and Hilda worked full time while they developed their kennels and hunt club. In 2014, Errol retired from his work at the kennels and spent his time tending beautiful flower gardens and prosperous vegetable gardens.
Errol will be dearly missed by his wife Hilda, sister Betty Hasbargen, sons Jason (Melissa) Gooding, Jon (Bridget) Gooding, his grandchildren Katarina, Grant, Wyatt, and Weston, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Verna, and siblings Lowell, Duane, IlaMae, and Vionne.
Service of Christian burial will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Visitation will be at 10am with service at 11am. Luncheon following the service at the church. Private burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Hilda and family, I’m so sorry for your loss, a very big part of your lives. May each day bring you many wonderful memories. God bless each of you. Carmen Ostby,
