Ethel Sklar, age 87, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Deerfield Gables in New Richmond. Ethel was born on September 10, 1928 in Eau Claire WI to parents Valdemar and Helga Hovlid. Ethel married Joseph “Dell” Sklar on June 4, 1952. They had a loving and lasting relationship until his passing in 2003. She had since lived in assisted living in both Woodville and New Richmond.

Ethel attended the Denver School, a one room schoolhouse, through the 8th grade. She went on to graduate from Woodville High School with the Class of 1946. Ethel then moved to Minneapolis and studied cosmetology at the Rogers and Benner School. After she graduated, Ethel worked for most of the years until her retirement as beautician in Hudson and Baldwin, finally opening her own shop at her home in Baldwin known as the ‘Curl and Swirl Beauty Shop’. She worked until her retirement at the age of 65. Ethel also enjoyed her dogs.

Ethel is survived by her sisters-in-law, Sr. Donna Sklar of St. Paul MN, and Rosemarie (John) Dorsey; step-brother, John (Rachel) Terkelsen of Woodville; step-sister-in-law, Marie Terkelsen of Woodville; and many friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Donna (Eugene) Ruetz; and step-brother, Hanley Terkelsen.

Funeral Servies for Ethel Sklar will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin with Rev. Andy Boe officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at the Baldwin Cemetery. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin WI. 715-684-3434
