Eunice A. Clifford

Eunice A. Clifford, age 98 of Plum City and formerly of Maiden Rock, died on Saturday evening, May 26, 2018 at the Plum City Care Center. Eunice was born August 30, 1919 in Salem Township WI to parents Charles and Christine (Haster) Knapp. Like so many of her generation, Eunice attended country school through the 8th grade. On November 12, 1938, Eunice was united in marriage to Charles H. Clifford. Charlie would precede her in death in February of 1998.

Together Eunice and Charlie worked for Hugo Bergholtz for 2 years, and then rented a farm for 5 years, before buying their first farm in 1945. Besides milking cows and picking corn by hand, and raising 200 chickens every year, Eunice did all the cooking and housekeeping, all while raising their five children: Kermith, Richard, Barbara, Betty and David. She would bake pies by the dozens, cake donuts by the dishpan full, and 6 loaves of bread twice a week. Later in life, she worked alongside Charlie in the field driving tractor, plowing, disking, and baling hay, and together they went on several trips with family and friends alike.

Eunice also enjoyed dancing polkas, reading, crocheting, fishing, telling colorful stories, and socializing. She drove a car until the age of 89, and mowed her own lawn until age 90. In all that she did, Eunice lived for her family. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

Eunice is survived by her children, Kermith (Doris) Clifford, Richard (Jeanette) Clifford, and Betty (Don Swanson) Buchholtz; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her son, David; her daughter, Barbara Halverson; her parents; and her 6 siblings.

A Visitation for Eunice will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday, May 31st at the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home, 130 N. Grant Street in Ellsworth, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00pm. Memorials may be given to the discretion of the family. A private family burial will be held. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth, WI. 715-273-4421
