Eunice V. Brendum

Eunice V. Brendum, age 85 of Hudson, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Christian Community Home in Hudson.  Eunice was born on July 27, 1925 to Haakon and Clara (Stigen) Hagen in Westby, Wisconsin.  She grew up in Westby and graduated with Westby High School’s class of 1943.  After graduation, Eunice took up a job in a retail store.  She did this until WWII when, in support of her country, she began work at a government plant in La Crosse.   On March 26th, 1949 she married LeRoy Brendum.  This marriage would be blessed with one son, Allan.  The Brendum family would remain in Westby until 1958, when a job at a St. Paul post office would have them settle in Hudson.  Eunice started working with Wisconsin Telephone in Hudson as an operator.  She then began working at the St. Croix County Courthouse as a bookkeeper.  She continued to work at the courthouse until her retirement in 1987.  LeRoy died in 1979 and Eunice stayed in Hudson.  She stayed quite active, volunteering and donating time at her church, Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson, the Phipps Theater, the Hudson Hospital, and Wintergreen.

Beyond her volunteering, Eunice enjoyed other activities.  She enjoyed travel – going as far as Norway to visit family.  She was quite the cook and excelled at making lefse & lutefisk (though she never ate the lutefisk).  In her earlier days she enjoyed bowling and throughout her life was always up for a game of cards with friends or family.  She was also a very proud grandma and loved to be active in the lives of her grandchildren.

Eunice is survived by her; son, Allan (Kathleen) Brendum, of River Falls; granddaughters; Abigail of Long Island, New York and Caitlin and Molly of River Falls; sister, Janet (William) Fahey, of Phillips, WI; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Eunice is preceded in death by her; husband, LeRoy; parents, Haakon and Clara (Stigen) Hagen; brother, Marvin and sisters, Cleo Jefson, Doris Burkhardt, Gladys Ottum, Florence Hagen, and Maydelle Hagen.

A funeral Service for Eunice Brendum will be held on Friday, March 11th at Bethel Lutheran Church, downtown Hudson at 11am.  There will be a visitation for one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Bob Bipes will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the Willow River Cemetery.  Services are in the care of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Hudson. 715-386-3725
