Evelyn Peterson

Evelyn Marie Peterson, aged 91, of Baldwin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on March 3, 2016.

Evelyn was born September 19, 1924 in Stanton Township, of Dunn County, WI, the daughter of William A. and Wilhelmina Marie (Harry) Moe. She was baptized on May 3, 1925, and confirmed in 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville, WI. Evelyn attended her early school years in at Pleasant Dale School and remaining elementary grades in Downing, WI. Her first three years of high school were in Downing. The family moved to Baldwin and Evelyn completed her senior year of high school in Baldwin graduating with the Class of 1942.

Following high school, Evelyn was employed at the WWII ration office in Hammond, WI. She married Richard Peterson on April 17, 1943 in Baldwin. Their union was blessed with seven children. Evelyn was a devoted wife and loving mother, providing for her family as a homemaker. After her children were grown, Evelyn enjoyed her work outside the home in various retail stores in Baldwin, including Fennern Jewelers.

A sampling of Evelyn’s community involvement were chairman for the St. Croix County American Cancer Society, board supervisor for the St. Croix FmHA Loan Board, mentor at Greenfield Elementary, and for many years as Dutch Days Ethnic Breakfast Chairperson. Evelyn served in many capacities in her spiritual life at Gethsemane Lutheran Church: Sunday School and confirmation teacher, Lutheran Women’s Ladies Aide and Circle Leader, as well as serving as the first woman congregational president for Gethsemane. She enjoyed time with the Women’s afternoon bowling league and she and Richard on a ”Ma & Pa” bowling league. Recently she was recognized as a 70 year member of the St. Croix County Lincoln Homemakers Club. In 1956 she won Grand prize Best White Bread at the St. Croix County Fair and was awarded a cash prize from King Midas Flour. Her image was used in advertising seen in magazines and printed material around the midwest. Evelyn’s cooking and baking skills served her and many in the community well. Her sweet wit, loving spirit and kind heart will be dearly missed by the many whose lives she’s touched.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 72 years, Richard; children, Barbara (LeRoy) Dull of Roberts, Dean (Linda) Peterson of New London, WI, Steven (Jean) Peterson of Hammond, Kristine (Richard) Meunier of Galesville, WI, Jerry (Ruth) Peterson of Spring Valley, Joyce (Steve) Kobilka of White Bear Lake, MN, and Gary Peterson; pets Tillie and Sam of Baldwin; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, William “Billy” (Eunice) Moe of Ocala, FL; sisters-in-law, Marjorie VanSomeren of Baldwin and Marion Moe of River Falls; brothers-in-law, Ken (Louise) Peterson of Baldwin, Don (Jean) Chillstrom of Green Valley, AZ, and Leland Randall of Richfield, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Wilmer Moe, Gladys Randall and Dorothy Chillstrom; sisters-in-law, Betty Plourde and Priscilla Chapel; brother-in-law, Frank VanSomeren; granddaughter, Jaclyn Kobilka; and great-granddaughter, Kjersti Bremer.

A Visitation will take place 4:00-8:00pm Monday, March 7, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at church. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1350 Florence St., Baldwin, with Pastor David Wall officiating. Burial will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery.
