Fawzi G. Dimian

Professor Fawzi Girgis Dimian.  b. August 4, 1929 d. December 22, 2014

His passing on December 22, 2014, during the season of love and joy, was preceded by a life full of love, grace and generosity.  Born August 4, 1929 in Zagazig, Egypt, he was the eldest son of six children.  He enjoyed all school subjects, and subsequently obtained both bachelors and masters degree from Cairo University in finance and accounting.

He was married to Ivonne Fahmy Dimian for 56 years and was the devoted father of three children;  eldest daughter Amal (56, husband Mark Toupal), and two sons Adel (53) and Atef (48, wife Joely).  Prior to the birth of their youngest son, they emigrated from Egypt to Seattle, Washington where both Fawzi and Ivonne pursued post-graduate degrees.  Fawzi completed coursework in accounting at the University of Washington and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).  Upon the birth of his youngest son and achieving US citizenship, he devoted himself to a life of university teaching and family.

He held faculty positions at Seattle University, Simon Frazer University and held visiting professor positions at the University of Benghazi, Libya.  He devoted 20 years as faculty and department head at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.

In addition to his devotion to family, he was a passionate and skilled fisherman who always seemed to catch the big one.  His love of fishing was only surpassed of his love of teaching and family.  He believed in the American dream and education as a path for all.  His courage and vision was apparent when he and Ivonne decided to not return to Egypt.  Instead they committed to a life in the United States and opportunity for their children.

His wife Ivonne precedes him in death.   His three children and grandchildren survive him:  Jesse (32), Adele Faye (29), Alexandra (18), Alysse (17), Joseph (12), and Elizabeth (10), along with his siblings: brother, Melad (Egypt), sister, Blanche (Egypt), brother, Atef and wife Nagwa (PA).
