Frances E. (Nee Zeilinger) Monicken, age 95 of Baldwin, Wisconsin died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, August 8 at the Baldwin Care Center. Fran was born on January 13, 1919 in Spring Valley, Wisconsin; the daughter of John P. and Minnie (Krause) Zeilinger. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Valley. She was raised in Spring Valley where she graduated from Spring Valley High School in the class of 1937. She would further her education at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. On February 16, 1942, she was united in marriage to Roland L. Monicken at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. This union would be further blessed with five children; Judy, Gayle, Dean, Doug, and Lori. They lived and farmed for over 50 years six miles south of Baldwin in Rush River Township.
Fran loved being a homemaker to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting. She took great pleasure in her volunteer work at the Baldwin Senior Center Nutrition Site and the Baldwin Care Center. Furthermore, she loved time spent with her birthday club, Homemakers Club, Busy Fingers Quilting Club, as well as Immaculate Conception Parish Women’s Guild and choir. More great memories came from her travels to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and especially Rome where she received a rosary blessed by the Pope.
Fran will live on in the hearts of her children; Judy (Rich) O’Connell of Wilmington, NC, Gayle (Sharon) Monicken of Mindoro, WI, Dean Monicken of Baldwin, Doug (Debbie) Monicken of Baldwin, Lori (Craig) Hadley of Baldwin; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is further survived by sisters-in-law Delores Zeilinger of Baldwin, Betty Monicken of Woodville, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Roland (1997); infant grandson; great grandson Tyler Monicken; brothers Ray (Eileen) Zeilinger, Johnnie Zeilinger; sister Virginia (Benny) Kjelstad; brothers/sisters-in-law Norris (Gert) Monicken, Lloyd Monicken, Maloy Monicken, Blanche (Elmer) Thompson, and Erma (Ralph) Martell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at O’Connell Funeral Home in Baldwin and 1 hour prior to the service. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:00am. Father Harris officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with casketbearers being Todd O’Connell, Troy O’Connell, Kyle Monicken, Trevor Hadley, Mark Kjelstad and John Monicken. Honorary pallbearer will be Tyler Monicken. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
