Fred F. Mangine

Fred F. Mangine, age 97, of Hudson, WI, passed away on April 5, 2013 at his residence in Bayport, MN. 

Fred was born on April 9, 1915 in St. Paul, MN, the oldest child of Joseph and Consolina (Saviantonio) Mangine. Along with his five siblings: Julio, Margaret, Albert, Tony, and Helen, he grew up and attended school in St. Paul. Following his education, he was united in marriage to Mary Theresa Idanza on July 9, 1938 in St. Paul, a marriage that would be blessed with two children, Consoline and Frederick. He served in two branches of the Armed Forces: the Naval Reserves and the Army, and was wounded while fighting in WWII, to which he was a purple heart recipient.

He was an employee by Hamms Brewing Company for a total of 41 years, and served his last 21 years as a supervisor in the railroad shipping department, while never missing a single day of work. He would later retire from Hamms in 1977. 

In 1963, Fred and his family moved to Hudson, where they made their home. 

Fred could be described as a generous man. He loved taking care of others. He was an eternal optimist and consistently encouraged others to accomplish their dreams. He was a loving family man, and was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a positive influence on the lives of others. He was also an athletic person: holding swimming records in his youth and competitive speed walking records at the age of 75. He loved to fish and be by the water. 

He is survived by his children, Consoline “Connie” (James) Brugler of Hudson, WI and Frederick (Kathy) Mangine of Osceola, WI; grandchildren: James (Aimee) Brugler of New Richmond, WI, Frederick (Jennie) Mangine of Somerset, WI, and Karrie (Joseph) Bruns of Mound, MN; great-grandchildren: Alecia, Madeline, Emma, Joseph, John, and Jacob Brugler, and Freddie and Bethanie Mangine; siblings, Margaret Bielicki, Albert (Adlyne) Mangine, Helen Mangine; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Mangine; along with many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary; his parents; siblings, Julio (Josephine), Tony, and baby brother.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Fred’s birthday – 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson with a visitation starting at 9 a.m. at church. Burial at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Croixdale Senior Living in Bayport.
