In Memory of Frederick Koenke

Frederick John Koenke, 77, of Woodville, Wisconsin, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Fred was born on October 11, 1944 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Vincent and Mary Ann (Pankake) Koenke. He graduated from South St. Paul High School with the class of 1962, and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  Fred was blessed with two children from a previous marriage, while married to Cheryl (Fischer): Troy and Lisa. He owned his own custom cabinet making business. He was a master cabinetmaker and made wonderful furniture and cabinetry for many people in Arizona over the years. He found his life partner in Patricia “Pat” Schaum, and the couple spent 41 years together before Pat’s death in 2018. They opened Pat’s Family Restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona in 1991. The restaurant was home to many regulars, police officers and other law enforcement agents, and was their out-of-town family’s first destination when visiting. They sold it in 2006 when Pat retired. Fred loved his family and always held a happy and positive attitude for life. He enjoyed painting and photography. He was fond of taking pictures of nature, including the flowers, mountains and sunsets. He had a way of capturing the beauty of the Arizona desert that many people missed.

 

Fred is survived by his two children, Troy (Barbie-mother of child) Koenke – AZ, and Lisa Bowman – WI; grandchildren, Symphony – AZ, Christian – WI, Rashad Jr. – WI, Hailie – CA; seven of Pat’s children, Michelle (Bruce) Bonine – MN, Keith (Janelle) Schaum – MO, Cindi (Jim) Stitz – AZ, Kevin (Melinda) Schaum – AZ, Eugene Jr. (Kelly) Schaum – MN, Kurt Schaum (Toshia Fraker) – MN, and Tricia Benjamin (George – Father of children) – AZ; Pat’s grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan), Nikki (Adam), Bobby (Jenna), Krissy, Chad; Kelly (Troy), Crystal (Nick), Jacob, Connor; Kraig (Melissa), Jaclyn (Tim), Jimmy (Alexandra), Billy (Jill); David, KJ, Hunter; Darrin (Jessica) Megan (Aaron); Dustin, Kaile; Kyle, and Isaiah; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill Koenke, Vincetta “Etta” Corrozza (Michael George), Cynthia (Michael) Duff; Jim (Vicki) Koenke, and John (Lisa) Koenke; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He is preceded in death by is partner of 41 years, Patricia “Pat” Schaum; his parents, Vincent and Mary Ann Koenke; brother, Vincent Jr. “Pete” Koenke; Pat’s son, Kenneth “Kenny” Schaum; and granddaughter, Anna Schaum.

 

A memorial service celebrating Fred’s life will be held in the spring of 2022. Cards for his family may be sent to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin, WI 54002, and will be forwarded to the family.

    • Goodbye buddy, I hope that your enjoying a good cigar and plenty of coffee up there. They don’t make friends like you anymore. We shared so many laughs, teasing the dogs and me yelling at the people who blocked our driveway🤪
