Gary Leland Leonard Sr., age 88 of Ellsworth, WI, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 27, 2024. He was born on May 25, 1936, to Leland and Gladys (Gunderson) Leonard. He attended Ellsworth Elementary School and High School.

On July 20, 1957, he married Rose Ann Lubich in Hastings, MN. From this union they were blessed with four sons, Gary Jr., Scott, Todd and infant son Gregory. In February of 1958 he went to work at Larson & Swanson Sinclair Station in Ellsworth. In 1971, he purchased Lawrence Larson’s partnership, and it became Elmer & Gary’s Mobil Station for 10 years. In April 1984 he went to work for Cenex Coop, retiring in May of 1998. He then worked part time for Behrens Auto Parts.

Gary is survived by his wife, Rose Ann; sons: Scott (Robin) Leonard and Todd Leonard. Three brothers: Bob Leonard, Jim (Kay) Leonard, and Larry (Bonnie) Leonard. One sister, Lynn Solum. As well as six grandchildren and two step grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Gregory, Gary Jr. (Dawn) Leonard; along with one brother, Richard.

A funeral service for Gary will be at 12:00pm on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at English Lutheran Church: 229 W. Main St. Ellsworth, WI 54011. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth.

  1. So sorry to hear the loss of Gary. Remember special get together at our houses when I was young. Also fond memories hanging out with Scott and Todd. You are all in my prayers
