Geraldine Catherine Eckholt, age 97 of New Richmond, passed away March 10, 2016 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Geraldine was born August 1, 1918 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Jesse and Hanna Belle Hansmire. She graduated from Waterloo East High School, the Class of 1937. Geraldine was a young leader and proudly served as one of the first activists who marched in Washington to fight social change for minimum wage. She was united in marriage to Albert Eckholt. Their marriage was blessed with three children, James, Judy and Eugene. Geraldine worked as a nurses assistant throughout her life, last working at the St. Croix Health Care Center. In her quiet time, Geraldine enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts. She was also an avid golfer.

 

Geraldine will remain in the hearts of her daughter, Judy (Ron) Duffe of New Richmond; son, Eugene (Jerri) Eckholt of Red Wing, MN; four grandchildren: Jodi Duffe of Pewaukee, WI, Rod (Wendy) Duffe of Highland, MI, Jamie Eckholt of Chicago, and Jennie (Hughes) Wike of Albany, OR; and great-granddaughter, Kaylin Duffe. She was preceded in death by her infant son, James; brothers, Eben and Paul Hansmire; and her parents.

 

Private family services will be held. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls, IA. Funeral and cremation services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin WI. (715) 684-3434 www.oconnellfuneralhomes.com
