Gladys I. Klingbeil Mehle

Gladys I. Klingbeil Mehle, of New Richmond, WI and Tucson, AZ, passed away October 29, 2016 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI.

Gladys was born on February 3, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN, to LeRoy and Ina (Selvala) Lewcox. She grew up on the family farm in Kulm, ND where her lifelong love of horses and horseback riding began. Gladys graduated from high school and attended business college. In 1946, she married Herbert Klingbeil in St. Paul, and together they raised three daughters. Gladys worked as a bookkeeper for several companies. In 1970, Herb passed away. Gladys met Herman “Sam” Mehle in 1982 at a grief support group. Love and support blossomed, and the couple were married on July 14, 1984 at the Catholic Church of St. Michael in West St. Paul, MN. They spent a few years in Inver Grove Heights, MN before retiring to Spooner, WI in 1988, where they spent 26 years. During that time they began wintering in Tucson, AZ. Recently, the couple moved their summer home to New Richmond, WI.

Gladys loved spending time with her family, and was extremely supportive and considerate to others. She had a lot of friends and enjoyed playing card games such as Bridge or Hand and Foot. Gladys appreciated the ability to stay healthy and active by taking walks and playing golf. She found relaxation by reading, working crossword puzzles, and most recently developed a passion for coloring.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 32 years, Herman “Sam” Mehle; daughters, Shelley (John) Albert, Vicki (Gary) Staples, Kristi Caetano; step-children, Joe (Carol) Mehle, Patti (Alan) Keil, Keenan Mehle; 6 grandchildren, Daniel (Lana) Albert, Michael Albert; Samantha (Nick) Dryden; Jessica Mehle; Carrie Keil, and Alison Keil;  3 great-grandchildren, Austin Albert, Jeremiah and Lauren Dryden; sister, Arlene Oldenburg.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Klingbeil; her parents; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; and brother-in-law, John Oldenburg.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 3rd at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, WI. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the mass at church. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
