Gladys Ulry

Gladys A. Ulry, age 96 of Eau Claire, passed away May 6, 2017 at Care Partners Memory Care in Altoona.  Gladys was born October 4, 1920 in Chippewa County, the daughter of Herman and Rachel (Britten) Kopp.  She graduated from Eau Claire High School, the Class of 1938.  Gladys was united in marriage on June 17, 1939 at the Plymouth United Church of Christ to Glen O. Ulry.  Their marriage was blessed with four children:  Judith, David, Lynne and Richard.  Gladys graciously provided a loving and nurturing home for her husband and children.  Gladys, along with the support of her husband, Glen were natural caregivers for their families and friends when the need arose.  Gladys worked outside of the home as a nursing assistant and pharmacy assistant with Luther Hospital, as well as a pharmacy assistant with Branstad Drug.

Gladys not only had a gracious heart for her family, but all who were blessed to know her.  Her welcoming and hospitable ways surely made others feel cared for.  She loved family time, and had a remarkable way of making each child and grandchild feel so special and loved.  Gladys was an active member of the Plymouth United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed volunteering her time for various activities, being a part of the church sewing group.  She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters.  Gladys and Glen were fortunate to share many family camping trips, and year round fishing vacations.  They enjoyed traveling together to various places including Hawaii, Europe, Canada, and many places throughout the United States.

Gladys was loved by all who knew her.  She will remain in the hearts of her children, Judith (James) Bauer of Hudson, David (Etta) Ulry of Eau Claire, and Lynne (Steven) Milward of Jim Falls, daughter-in-law, Mary Ulry of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren:  Kenneth (Rosemary) Bauer, Lynn (Peter) Hawksford, Mark (Lanida) Bauer, Steven (Kerri) Ulry, Jessica Ulry, Brandon Chance, Scott (Tina) Milward, Wendy Zimmerman, Melissa Milward, Troy Ulry, Judy Ulry and Karrie (Karl) Knopps; many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; son, Richard; and siblings:  Harold, Olive, Merle, Dorothy, LaMoine, and Marilyn.

Funeral services for Gladys will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, May 11th at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 West Grand Ave., Eau Claire, with Pastor David Huber from Plymouth United Church of Christ officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.  Pallbearers assisting with the services will be:  Kenneth Bauer, Mark Bauer, Steven Ulry, Brandon Chance, Peter Hawksford, Eric Ulry, and Jason Hawksford.  Gladys’ family would like to thank Wissota Place Assisted Living, Care Partners Memory Care, and St. Joseph’s Home Health and Hospice for their loving care.
