Glen Richard Boldt, age 84 of Baldwin, died peacefully on January 20, 2018 at the Baldwin Care Center. Glen was born April 14, 1933 in Wolsey, South Dakota to parents Frank and Olga (Ecker) Boldt. Glen grew up in Baldwin, attended Three Willow Country School and graduated from Baldwin High School. On September 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Doris Marie Dumond at the Baldwin Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together he and Doris raised six children on their farm north of Baldwin bordering Pine Lake. After farming, he and Doris continued living on the lake and were blessed with nearly sixty-five years of marriage. Glen often referred to their homestead on the lake as his “little piece of heaven”.

Besides farming, Glen worked various jobs delivering milk, mowing at the Baldwin Cemetery, fixing and selling cars and also at the Ideal Door Company. He would eventually retire and dedicate his time to his passion which was fishing Pine Lake. Glen lived all but three years of his life on Pine Lake so it naturally became a part of who he was. He had such pride and respect for it and devoted much of his life nurturing it. His knowledge of Pine Lake was remarkable, particularly where the best fishing spots were. He was an avid fisherman and loved sharing his love of fishing with family, friends, neighbors and especially his grandchildren. It was easy to see Glen was most at peace when he was out on the lake with a fishing pole in his hands. When he wasn’t fishing Glen could be found tinkering in his garage, chatting with friends and neighbors, working on a puzzle or on an outing with Doris. He was a devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church where he and Doris were often the first to arrive on Sunday mornings and he would have that first cup of coffee.

Smiles and laughter come easily when remembering Glen as he was quite the character. No one could tell a story quite like Glen. His family, friends and especially his grandchildren were delighted as they listened to stories of his younger years, his hunting and fishing adventures including numerous trips to Canada, how he negotiated a good deal or his creative solution to a particular problem or situation. His tellings often involved a near disaster or of him somehow being above the law, and would leave his listeners shaking their heads.

God blessed Glen’s life in many ways and his family is comforted by precious memories of their loving father and grandfather, and most notably his love and devotion for Doris. They rejoice that he now rests eternally with God and is forever united with his beloved wife.

Glen will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Glenda (David) Anderson, Debbie (Dennis) Mathison, Brenda Helgeson, Gary (Sherry) Boldt, Brad (Amy) Boldt and Becky (Mike) Schramski; grandchildren, Jeremy, Gina (Abe), Scott (Angela), Jessica, Heather (Tim), Kyle (Nicci), Trevor (Lindsey), Derek (Alicia), Aaron (Bailey), Brock (Kaylee), Brittanie (Scott), Dylan, Conner and Aubree; great-grandchildren, Austin, Hallee, Audrey, Stella, Liam, Wyatt, William, Weston and Violet; sister, Arlene (Pete) Ortman, sisters-in-law, Darlene Lynum and Edna Dumond; brother-in-law, Marty Herbers, as well as other relatives, friends and neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris who died in August 2017, his parents, Frank and Olga Boldt, sisters, Maxine (Howard) Bakke, Belva Bradley; brothers, Evertt (Eleanor) Boldt, Larry Boldt, Bob (Edna) Boldt; parents-in-law, Leaon and Dora Dumond, sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlys Herbers, Robert Lynum, Dale (Delores) Dumond and Galen Dumond

Funeral Service for Glen will be 11:00am Thursday, January 25th at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1350 Florence Street, Baldwin. Interment in the Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church, and also from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 24th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street, Baldwin.
