Gloria “Jeanne” Johnson

Gloria Jean “Jeanne” Johnson, age 75 of Ellsworth, WI, passed away April 24, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family.  Jeanne was born May 9, 1945 at the Naval base in Annapolis, MD to Kenneth F. and Frances A. (Wells) Sarnstrom.  Being the oldest child of nine siblings, she leaned her calling early as a caregiver and devoted mother.  Jeanne attended Lindgren Grade School in the country, graduating from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1964.  She worked briefly at Montgomery Wards in St. Paul, MN.  Jeanne married LaVern Johnson on December 4, 1965 at Svea Lutheran Church in Hager City.  She was a life-long member at Svea and served on all the activities.

Jeanne was the kindest and most loving person.  She always found time to say good about everyone.  LaVern and Jeanne had one son, Todd, and later her two grandsons made her life truly blessed.  Jeanne worked at the Ellsworth Care Center in the kitchen as a cook for 35 years.  Caregiving was her greatest joy (to make people happy), helping to raise her younger siblings, her son, and grandsons and the elderly people.  All were blessed to know her and loved her dearly.

Jeanne is survived by her devoted son, Todd (Judy Murray) Johnson; grandsons, Tyrone (Jessica) Johnson and Jared Johnson; siblings:  Judea (Gary) Myers, Audrey (Doug) Schulte, Kenneth (Judy) Sarnstrom Jr., Arlene (Arne) Rosener, Betty (Joe) Linder, Dan (Jan) Sarnstrom, and Ron (Tracey) Sarnstrom; her dear companion for many years, Daniel Hayes; brother-in-law, Richard (Pat) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Gloria Heinke and Dorothy La Pean; so many nieces, nephews, whom she treasured and loved so much.  Jeanne had so many dear friends.

Preceded her into eternal life was her husband, LaVern V. Johnson; sister, Geraldine Gilbertson; parents, Kenneth and Frances Sarnstrom; brothers-in-law, Gary Gilbertson, Marvin Johnson and Roy La Pean.

A very special thanks to all the “angels” who cared for her during her brave passing to eternal life in Jesus:  Tammy Scamp, the Hayes family, her niece Gwen Van Hadel, all the hospice caregivers, her daughter-in-law at heart, Judy, who was always there for her, thank you.  To all of you not mentioned, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we know who you are.  All the many phone calls she received made her days special, thank you.  She will always be with us all, with her kind, gentle ways, always thinking of and putting others above her own wants and needs.  It’s who she was… God’s special angel.

A Memorial Service will take place 12:00 Noon Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Svea Lutheran Church, N2610 770th St., Hager City, with Pastor Dean Lundgren officiating.  A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00  PM at the church.  Interment will take place at Svea Lutheran Cemetery.  A reception will follow the burial at the Ellsworth VFW.

Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth (715) 273-4421.  www.oconnellfuneralservices.com
