Gregory James Iverson, 75, of Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away at home on September 30, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Gregory was born on May 17, 1949 to Jimmie and Maxine (Steinberg) Iverson in Buffalo Center, Iowa. As a child, summer days were spent with his sister and cousins enjoying days on his grandparents’ farms in Iowa.

After Greg graduated from Graettinger High School in 1967, he attended the University of Northern Iowa for a year, then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968. He was an Aviation Electronics Technician Petty Officer 2nd Class. Greg was proud to be a veteran and served aboard the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier in the Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in December 1972. Greg received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
In 1971, while stationed in Albany, Georgia, Greg met Alice Faye Kelley through some mutual friends while spending time in Panama City Beach, Florida. Alice was the daughter of Daniel and Ora Faye (Stradley) Kelley of Albany, Georgia. They were married in Albany in January 1972. Shortly after that, Greg served on the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier in the Tonkin Gulf of Vietnam. After his discharge from the Navy in 1973, Alice and Greg moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa, to be near his family, and later to Des Moines, Iowa, where Greg started his career with Xerox as an electronics technician. While in Des Moines, Greg and Alice welcomed their daughter Amy Michelle. They moved to Spencer, Iowa and had two more children, Jacob
Andrew and Nicholas James. In 1993 Greg and his family moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, where he continued to work for Xerox Corporation. In 2007, Greg retired after 37 years with Xerox and spent his time fishing and making sure his children and their spouses were never more than a phone call away…. always offering help with projects, adventures, and grandchildren. He was excited for the first grandchild in 2009, followed by 7 more grandchildren. These 8 grandchildren became the center of his world. He also decided to fulfill a life-long dream of getting his pilot’s license. In 2018 Greg and Alice moved to Hudson, Wisconsin to be close to children and grandchildren. During his final 3 years on earth, Greg and Alice were surrounded by family while living with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Although Parkinson stole his independence, it did not take from him his generous heart, kindness, humility, or sense of humor. A team of wonderful healthcare professionals and care workers provided more than could be hoped for throughout the hardest part of Greg’s journey. A special thank you to Interim Hospice for giving us the gift of staying together at home throughout his journey.
Greg was predeceased by his father, mother, and sister Pamela Sue (Iverson) Finney. He is survived by his wife Alice, daughter Amy (Tim) Jaynes, son Jacob (Betsy) Iverson, son Nicholas (Hitomi) Iverson, niece Jennifer Iverson, his grandchildren Kylee, Josh, Jayden, Anna, Kyvea, Luka, Kira and Lucas and numerous cousins.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parkinson’s Association or a Hospice organization.
