Harley D. Halverson

Harley D. Halverson, age 90, of Hudson, WI, passed away on the morning of Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, with his wife, Janis at his side.

Harley was born on November 8, 1922 in Baldwin, WI to Ben and Gina (Endahl) Halverson.  He grew up in Baldwin and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1941.  He enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served through World War II.  While returning home via Philadelphia, Harley met his future wife, Janis Lane.  The two were married on August 21, 1947 in Prospect Park, PA.  The newly formed Halverson family settled in Baldwin and their marriage would be blessed with four children, Elaine, Marcia, Linda, and Brian.  Harley attended the Minnesota School of Business where he excelled in accounting.  In later years, he built and operated the A&W Drive-in in Hudson.  He retired from a 14 year career with 3M in 1984.  Harley and Janis enjoyed their retirement with traveling and visiting with their family and many friends.

Harley was a hardworking and dedicated family man.  He knew how to have a good time too.  Often you could find Harley and Janis at the local “Old Time” dance, or playing cards with friends.  Harley could carry on great conversation with anyone and the word stranger wasn’t in his vocabulary.  He and Janis’ travels took them all over the world.  He was active in his community as well, ushering at Bethel Lutheran Church, participating as a member of the Masons and serving as a lifetime member of the Baldwin American Legion Post #240.

Harley is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janis; children, Elaine (Guy) Bartolain, of Anoka, MN, Marcia (Mark) Sabin, of Scandinavia, WI, Linda (Kenneth) Ogi, of Richland Center, WI, and Brian (Lori) Halverson of Hudson,WI; grandchildren, Jayson (Kerry) Bartolain, Sara (Eric) Nemeth, Katie Sabin, Jonathan Sabin, Brett Ogi, Kellen Ogi, Jacob Halverson, Dylan Halverson and Nicholas Halverson; great-grandchildren, William, Sydney, Sophia and Ava; sister-in-law, Carol Halverson; sister-in-law, Doris (Larry) Church as well as many other dear family and friends.

Harley is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Gina Halverson and his brother, Gordon.

A funeral celebration of life for Harley will be held at 11am on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Bethel Lutheran Church Downtown Hudson, WI.  Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services as well as from 3-5 pm on Sunday, July 28 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Adoray Hospice or Bethel Lutheran Church.  Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home. 715.386.3725
