HAROLD O. HANSEN
Of Woodbury, MN Passed away on April 16, 2023 at the age of 96.
WWII Navy Veteran, Pacific Theater

Survived by a loving wife of 73 years Delores, sons Stephen (Mary) Hansen, Scott (Enanu) Hansen, Grandchildren Philip, Kristin, Grace, Cindy, and many friends.
Preceded in death by daughter Cynthia Loraine, sisters Mary Williams, Elsie Wishon, and brother John Hansen.

Born on March 29, 1927 to Gustave and Elvira Hansen in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from Central High School in 1944. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he earned a degree from Dunwoody Institute, and attended the University of Minnesota School of Architecture leading him to a long career as an architect designing residential homes, ice arenas, churches and apartment buildings. Harold raised his family on the St. Croix river and met many life-long friends. He enjoyed the river life as well as hunting, fishing and golf. With an interest in writing, he authored many short stories including a published novel named Bennington’s Secret. His love for woodworking kept him busy throughout his retirement years where he crafted many small projects for the residents of Saint Therese of Woodbury senior community where he lived with Delores in their later years. His volunteer work and time spent helping others in the Saint Therese community earned him the state-wide Spirit of Aging Award for exemplifying the concept of positive and active aging. He also became skilled at carving birds, which he gave to many friends. He enjoyed meeting people, sharing stories and a laugh, but he was mostly interested in learning about the other person. He could remember details about every person he met.

Memorial Service at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Afton, MN on May 13 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to service, and luncheon immediately following at the church. Private interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
Memorials preferred to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Peace hospice care, or St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra.

  1. Delores, I fondly remember Harold (HOH) and Robert F Ackerman & Associates Architects. Harold was an absolute gentleman (unless he was arguing with Bob Ackerman).
I was the accountant for the firm, plus Harold and Bob. I believe I met you once.
Harold had a tremendous smile and yes he was always interested in knowing how anyone he met was doing.
Harold and Bob asked me to mediate the differences they had with accounts and money matters. I think it was a success because they both were not satisfied.
My sympathies to you Delores and the family.
    Dan St Martin
