Harry McGee

Harry “Habe” Duane McGee, age 72 and founder of McGee’s Fix-It Shop in Baldwin, died on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his residence following an illness with cancer. Harry was born September 24, 1938 in Menomonie WI to parents Donald Morris and Leona Jane (Frantz) McGee. Harry attended grade school in Wilson WI, and was a 1956 graduate of Glenwood City High School. On September 20, 1958, Harry would be united in marriage to Evelyn Ina Schmidt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenwood City. Their union in marriage would be blessed with three children, Donald, Lynne, and Amy.

Harry was a hard-working man who relied on his hands. He worked with ornamental iron, he worked around the farm, but Harry was at his best when he was busy tinkering, and so he founded McGee’s Fix-It Shop, where he would become known throughout the area as the guy to go to when you needed small engine repair work done. At 5:00pm every day, Harry enjoyed having a cold Milwaukee’s Best. Harry also enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting, bowling, golfing, and playing softball and baseball. Harry became well known driving school bus for 48 years, and he always enjoyed visiting with folks at his main street shop. Harry will be remembered and respected by many for his hard work, honesty, and integrity. Harry loved people, his children, and his plants. His family was very important to him.

Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn; his son, Don (Norma) McGee of Baldwin; daughters Lynne (Wayne) Hellerman of Stillwater MN, and Amy (LeRoy) Campbell of Baldwin; grandchildren Sarah (Adam) Dodge, Matthew (Jennifer) McGee, Bradley McGee, Willie Hellerman, Kyle McGee, Heather McGee, Haili Campbell, Lexus Campbell, and Lacie Campbell; great-grandchildren Adam Jr., Hunter, Ian, Dane, Beck, and Shea; brother Claude (Luella “Lue”) McGee of Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Leona.

Funeral services for Harry McGee will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, June 5th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville. Private burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Hersey. Visitation will only be on Saturday from 12:00 noon-4:00PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Memorials are preferred. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin WI. 715-684-3434
