Harry Marcus “Smitty” Smith, 81, of Wilson, WI, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 in his home. He was born October 21, 1937, the son of Harry E. and Margaret (Adams) Smith.

While assigned by the Navy in California, Harry met the love of his life, Donna Mae. On March 30th, 1968, they were wed in Ventura, CA. Harry & Donna’s marriage was blessed in many ways, but their true joy was raising their four sons together. After Harry’s time in the military, he & the family moved to his old stomping grounds of Wilson, WI so that he & Donna could raise their children in the same back country environment that he enjoyed so well. 

Coming back home meant that Harry got to engage in many of the year-round outdoor activities that he enjoyed so well: such as camping, fishing, hiking through the woods, & especially, spending summers with his family on Benoit Lake in Northern Wisconsin. He also enjoyed sitting on the beach, having a “Big Orange” with good friends Larry Bild and Pat Moore. Aside from being an outdoorsman, Harry also had a fondness for traveling & was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. When Harry’s grandchildren came along, he loved spending his time with them. He loved being a grandpa, & sharing the hobbies & passions of his life with his grandchildren. Through this, & the memory of his caring & adventurous spirit, Harry will live on in not only the hearts of his family, but all who were fortunate enough to know him in this life.

Harry will be forever remembered by his beloved children; Thomas (Lisa) Smith of Wilson, Mark (Karie) Smith of Wilson, & Matt Smith of Woodville; his precious grandchildren; Kyle, Heather, Kira, Jewelee, Cyrus, Rebecca, Kayla, Ciara, Hannah, Kimberly, Wyatt, Skyler, and MacKenzie; great-grandchildren; Jordan, Kale, twins Abigail & Bella, Romeo, Gabriela, Capri, Maddie; siblings, Pat, Sharon, William and Robert; & many nieces, nephews, extended relatives & friends; and his furry friends Captain and Charlee.

Harry is preceded in death by his adored wife; Donna Mae, whom with he will be able to spend what would be their 51st wedding anniversary this year, his dear son; Harlan “Darrell” Smith; parents Harry and Margaret; siblings, Mary Ellen and David; sister-in-law Diane Smith; brother-in-law, Clinton Marsette.

A Memorial Gathering for Harry will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, WI. A Visitation will take place one-hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, just a few miles from the lake where Harry & his family would spend some unforgettable summers together.
