Inez Newton was born on March 27, 1936 in Pleasant Valley, WI, to Harry and Ruth Ramberg. After graduating from Baldwin High School, Inez met and married Verlyn Newton on July 17, 1954 at Rush River Lutheran Church in River Falls, WI. The couple was blessed with three children; Doug, Gary and Susie. Inez stayed a homemaker for most of her years, but also was a school cook for the Baldwin-Woodville school district between 1971-1999. She also enjoyed helping cater for Ruth Hurgten for many years.

Inez was best known for her sense of humor and smile. She looked at life with joy that was contagious. Her family and friends would often be fortunate to enjoy some of her best Norwegian dishes. She was honored to share and teach others her special recipes. Inez had a sweet tooth enjoying any cookies or candies that were given to her. She loved spending time with her family and friends and could often be found playing cards or putting together puzzles with them. For over 60 years, Inez never missed her weekly coffee dates with friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Inez was very active in her church. Through the years she taught Sunday School, Bible School and helped in Steven Ministries. Her joy for life and sense of humor will be missed by many.

Inez is survived by her children Doug (Joy) Newton of Baldwin, Gary (Janine) Newton of Baldwin, Susie (Kirk) Mabis of Baldwin; grandchildren Scott (Kristen) Newton, Brad (Sue) Newton, Brian (Amy) Newton, Jill (Graham) Gausman, Josh (Emily) Newton, Jenna (Scott) Capizzi, Adam (McKenna) Newton, Danielle (James) Smith, Taylor (Erica) Mabis, Tana (Vince) Rudesill; 27 great-grandchildren; sister’s-in-law Lucy Larson, Marlys Newton, Judy Newton; brother-in-law Duane Newton; and many other nieces and nephews.

Inez is preceded in death by her husband Verlyn Newton; sister’s Deloris, Luella; brother’s Earl, Harlen, Eldon; and many brother’s- and sister’s-in-law.

  1. “Great” Aunt Inez will always be remembered in my book, and she definitely never let us forget the “great” part. Road trips with her and my Grandma Deloris are some of my favorite memories. Lots of laughter!

  2. Loved talking to Inez. She had a great sense of humor and just the right amount of sassiness and she had a gleam in her eye. I mean this in a good way. She was always friendly. She loved and was proud of her family. She will be missed!
