Isaac Van Someren, age 99, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away on November 13, 2023 with family by his side. Isaac was born to Frank and Catherine Van Someren on November 6, 1924 in Baldwin, Wisconsin. He had an older sister Francis Weavers and a younger brother Marion Van Someren.
Ike attended Baldwin Christian School and graduated from High School while helping with the farm chores. After leaving the family farm, he purchased a semi-truck and started hauling corn, grain, salt, and food items in the five state area surrounding Minnesota.
In 1947, Isaac fell in love with Alvina Van Engen and were married in Baldwin, Wisconsin. Ike and Vi then moved to Minneapolis and started a family. Ike sold his truck and started working in the grocery business at Erickson’s. It was not long after the grocery business that he was hired by Nabisco to sell cookies and crackers to the Red Owl and Super Valu chains. He retired after 45 years of service.
Ike has always been a strong Christian believer stressing regular church involvement and encouraging Christian School education for his children. In addition, he held several positions as Elder/Deacon of the local Christian Reformed Church, school board member of Calvin Christian School, Board member at Dordt University, board member of VEAP, and was involved in Bible distribution (Reach Out) traveling in Minnesota, China, and Vietnam.
Ike regularly thanked God for his many blessings of life, including long time health, friends, family, and business experiences he loved telling stories about how proud he was of his children. He was preceded in death by Alvina, his loving wife of 67 years.
He will be deeply missed by his children William (Susan), Patricia (Rama) Jeanne (Dale), Barbara (Dean), Jim (Meghan), Jeff (Elaine), 16 Grandchildren, and 22

I have great memories of Ike and Viney giving rides to Jack Rinsma to church and then inviting he and I over for Sunday noon meal. Later after Jack and Viney had died I remember eating with just Ike and i. I’m sorry I am not able to attend his funeral or visitation. Thanks to God for Ike and Viney’s faithfulness to him.
Sincere sympathy to Jeff, Elaine and the Van Someren family on the passing of your beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. May Mr Van Someren Rest in Peace.
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear Dad and Grandpa. I praise and thank God for the life of Ike. He was such an integral part of our own family history in the church and elsewhere. In recent years, I really was blessed by spending time with him. He reminded me so much of my Dad and Grandpa Kamp. He often talked about how much he loved his kids and family. His greatest hope was that he would see each of you in heaven someday and that you’ll spend eternity praising the Lord together. So in memory of Ike, I pray that you will seek the Lord with all your heart and may He bless you with His peace.❤️🙏🏼❤️
