Jack D. Mattison

Jack D. Mattison, age 87, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019, at the Spring Valley Health and Rehab Center in Spring Valley, WI. Jack was born on September 7, 1931, the son of Glen and Edna (Esanbock) Mattison. Jack attended and graduated from Spring Valley High School; he left his home in service to his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. On April 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ninneman in Camp Polk, Louisiana.

Jack began work as a laborer for Sweeney Brother Construction following his honorable discharge from the Army, as well as running the family farm along side his brother, Jerry, for many years. Eventually Jack’s hard-nosed work ethic granted him the opportunity to reach a buyout with Sweeney Brothers as he took over the company as its owner. Jack succeeded in merging Sweeny Bros. and Timme Construction who bought half interest in 1980. Jack retired from the industry in 1991. Because of Jack’s relentless desire to provide good business, the Mattison name has been well-known in the highway construction industry for over 60 years.

Aside from working “nine out of seven days per week,” Jack enjoyed his time fishing, occasionally gardening with Barb, spending time with his family, and frequently expanding on his fascination with nature, especially bald eagles.

Jack will remain in the hearts of his children, Connie Anderson, Mark (Brenda) Mattison, Tammie (Jim) Anger, and Adam (Delaine) Mattison; grandchildren, April (Shawn) Miller, Aimee (Carter Nelson) Olson, Whitney Mattison, Brandon (Linsy) Margelofsky, Eric (Abby) Margelofsky, Tessa (Paul) Langer, Shalane (Adam) Wick, Jimmie Anger, McKenzie (Luke) Bakkum, McKenna (Adam Newton) Mattison, McKayla Mattison, and Jack Mattison; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Dianne) Mattison; his beloved King Charles dog, Buddy; as well as other extended family and numerous friends

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Barb; parents, Glen and Edna; and son-in-law, Orlin Anderson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 12 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI, immediately followed by a Memorial Service for Jack at 3:00 PM. Military Honors will be held for Jack following the service, as well as a lunch. Interment will be held at a later date.
