James E. ‘Jim’ Holmberg

James Edward “Jim” Holmberg, age 84 of Hudson, WI passed away peacefully December 13, 2016 with his wife by his side.

Jim was born on December 3, 1932 in Red Oak, IA, to his parents, Raymond and Virginia (Coombs) Holmberg. He graduated from Red Oak High School and earned a Degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University. On October 28, 1956, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Dorothy Requist in Stanton, IA. The couple lived for a year in Washington, D.C. during Jim’s time in the army, before relocating to St. Paul, MN in 1958 when he took a job with 3M as a Chemical Engineer. They were blessed with two children, Dane and Doree. After a career of over 35 years with 3M, Jim retired in 1994.

Jim was a caring, generous and thoughtful man who enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and family. He made gatherings special by arranging activities like Easter egg hunts and lawn game tournaments for his grandchildren where he would supply fun prizes, and he loved family traditions like making homemade ice cream.

Jim was an avid sportsman, playing many sports throughout high school and later on 3M teams. He had a lifelong love of fishing and relished in the memories of fishing trips with his parents, children and grandchildren. He found relaxation in gardening and taking care of his apple orchard that yielded homemade cider from his cider press every fall. Upon retirement, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the US and into Europe. He had a love of lighthouses, and the inseparable pair toured lighthouses on both the East and West coasts.

Jim will remain in the hearts of his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy; children, Dane (Cheri) Holmberg and Doree (Steve) Wendling; grandchildren, Mitchell and Blake Holmberg; Taylor Triebwasser; Luke and Cole Wendling; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Jackie Thrapp and Barb Schantz.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 Vine St., Hudson, WI. A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place one hour prior to the service at church.
