Janet Louise Hanson (Lutz), age 90, of Hudson, died on Thursday May 26th, 2011 at Red Cedar Canyon Assisted Living in Hudson, Wisconsin. Janet was born on October 26, 1920 to Waldo and Hazel (Chase) Small in Houlton, Maine. She grew up in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School. After graduating, she pursued a nursing career at the Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. On a blind date is where she met MIT student, John O. Lutz. The two were soon married in Falls Church, VA on July 3, 1940. This union would be blessed with two girls; Janet and Jacalyn. In 1972, Janet moved to Voyager Village in Danbury, WI. While living there, she met and married Richard Hanson. Richard passed away in 2007, and in 2008 Janet moved to Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson, WI.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Janet (Thomas) Gitzen of Eagan, MN and Jacalyn Margittay of Sturgeon Bay, WI; grandchildren; John (Annie) Gitzen of Clayton, WI, Dr. Josepth Gitzen of Madison, SD, Jessie Gitzen of Milwaukee, WI, and Nichja (Derek) Dryg of San Francisco, CA; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Logan, and Willa Gitzen.
Services for Janet will be held at 2PM, Saturday June 4th at Red Cedar Canyon Assisted Living. Chaplin Roger Kastelle of Adoray Hospice will be officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Northwestern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory.
