Janet Ion

Janet Elizabeth “Jan” Ion, age 67, of Hudson, passed away at her home on June 23 after a courageous 27-year battle with breast cancer. She was born the daughter of Arthur A. and Ethelmay L. (Bangle) Englert on June 14, 1944 in Browns Valley, MN. Jan graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1962.

On September 9, 1964 she was united in marriage to Jerrell J. “Jerry” Ion. They were blessed with two children, Julie and Jeffrey. Jan worked as a marketing coordinator for 3M, retiring after 19 years in 1994. She continued to work, and had her official second retirement in 2001.

Her hobbies included time with her devoted grandchildren, attending their musical and sporting events, reading, and playing games.  She also enjoyed playing cards and other games with family and friends.

Jan is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jerry; daughter, Julie Zamzow of Hudson; son, Jeff (Lisa) Ion of Hudson; granddaughter, Madeline Janet and grandsons, Ethan and Logan; former son-in-law, Joel; brother, Richard (Gail) Englert of NJ; sisters, Beverly Jones of Hudson and Barbara (Robert) Olson of SD; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister, Judith.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Jan’s life at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 27 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church and on Sunday, June 26 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church or Adoray Hospice.
