Janice Lee Horton, age 77, of Hudson, WI, passed away, surrounded by family, on January 13, 2016 in Hudson.

Jan was born on April 14, 1938 to George and Dorothy (Adams) Truen. When Jan was a young girl, her mother married Burrell Bentz and the family moved to the Grand Rapids area with her three siblings.  Her family moved her senior year to South Saint Paul, where she graduated from South St. Paul Senior High School.  It was while attending high school in Grand Rapids that Jan met her high school sweetheart, Gerald Horton. After dating for a little over a year, they were married on June 22, 1957 at Grace Bible Chapel in Grand Rapids.

In 1960, Jan and Jerry found their home in Cottage Grove, MN, where they raised their five children: Patricia, Michael, Robert, Nancy, and Melissa. In 1993, Jan and Jerry moved to Longville, MN, on Little Boy Lake to enjoy retirement.  In 2005, they moved to Hudson, WI to be closer to their family.

Among many hobbies and interests, Jan found pleasure in bird watching, reading a good book, working on puzzles with her husband, watching game shows, westerns, and ID, as well as, snuggling with her cats.  Jan enjoyed taking travels with her family all over North America, and to England and Italy. She especially loved Disney World for the Holiday Light display and fond memories with Jerry.  She was incredibly devoted to her faith, praying for two hours every morning, and was known to her children as their “little angel on earth.” Above everything though, her family was her pride and joy and every favorite moment she had was with the people who were closest to her.

Jan is survived by her children: Patricia (Mike) Gould of Alexandria, MN, Michael (Mary Pat) Horton of Cottage Grove, MN, Robert (Raquel) Horton of Shoreview, MN, Nancy (Dave) Peterson of Hudson, WI, and Melissa Horton of Hudson, WI; 11 grandchildren: Bradley, Jason, Kristina, Anthony, Matthew, Mollie, Megan, Tyler, Austin, Aspen, and Jesse; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgia DuBois of Grand Rapids, MN, Roberta (Larry) Hansch of Woodbury, MN, Corrinne Reed of Lake Elmo, MN, and Sharon Truen of Woodville, WI; and brother, Reed Truen of Grand Rapids, MN; along with many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, George and Dorothy; and step-father, Burrell.

A Funeral Service for Janice will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, January 25, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson with a visitation held two hours prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Willow River Cemetery.
