Janice Marguerite Seifert

Janice Marguerite Seifert, age 81, of River Falls, WI died peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Comforts of Home in River Falls. Janice was born December 1, 1937, to John (Jack) and Evelyn (Johnson) Filkins. She was the oldest of three children. Janice graduated from Prescott High School in the class of 1955, and married Gerald (Jerry) Seifert on September 20, 1955, that same year.
Janice and Jerry raised five children on the farm in Big River. Besides being a homemaker, she worked many years at the Virginian Supper Club as a waitress, then the Steamboat Inn and back to the Virginian before giving up her apron.
Family was an important part of Janice’s life, and she took great joy in watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Janice was an excellent cook and baker. Among her specialties were: ginger snaps, kolaches, and holiday traditional foods. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Janice and Jerry were long time members of St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church. After retirement, Janice and Jerry’s haven was their lake home in Siren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Evelyn Filkins; her husband, Jerry Seifert; her sister, Karen Dunn.
Janice is lovingly survived by her children, Jill (Zane) Brainard, Laurie (Tom) Magee, Phil (Lisa) Seifert, Paul (Linda) Seifert, and Luita Seifert; 12 grandchildren, Jay, John, Laura, Ryan, Ashley (Jaclyn), Travis, Coulton, Kita (Sam), Philip Jr., Gary (Rachel), Cory, and Clay; 4 great grandchildren, Nolan Jackson, Walker, and Griffin; her brother, Thomas (Janice) Filkins; brother-in-law, Pat Dunn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, February 4th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 1339 Orrin Road, Prescott, WI. A private family gathering will be held at a later date for interment at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
