Jeff Kulow

Jeffrey James Kulow died on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul MN. He was 60 years old. Jeff was born April 4, 1958, the eldest child of James and Yvonne (Kahabka) Kulow. Jeff would graduate from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1976. Having an affinity for the Arts and Literature, Jeff chose to major in English. He furthered his education at St Cloud State University to earn his Bachelor’s degree, and Mankato State University where he earned his Master’s degree.

Jeff worked for many years as an English proctor, evaluating and scoring written responses to standardized tests to high school students in compliance with set standards. Jeff grew up reading books, and admired the works of many authors. He spent time writing his own poetry, haiku, and short stories, and also enjoyed listening to music. His life was a constant pursuit of knowledge. Jeff also advocated for local non-profit organizations dedicated to facilitating arts related events and projects. Jeff was a warm conversationalist who embodied a unique and “cerebral” sense of humor, paired with a biting wit and a fair amount of sarcasm. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him well.

Jeff is survived by his parents, Jim and Vonnie Kulow; his siblings, Joel (Carola) Kulow, Kyle (Bobbie) Kulow, Kent (Teri) Kulow, Jamie (Brandon) Melstrom, Gina (Dave) Hamilton, and Colin (Bryan) Kulow; nieces and nephews, Chad, Chase (Heather), Carlie, Kylee (Kyle), Maddie (Jason), Carson (Elise), Chrystian, Alec, and Owen; great-nephew, Fenwick; as well as other relatives and friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin (Mary) Kulow, and Winston Chiquette, and Joseph (Alice) Kahabka, and Wilfred Kannel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 18th at St Francis Catholic Church, 231 W. Woodworth St. in Ellsworth, with Rev. Fr. Eric Dadson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, beginning at 10:00am. A time for fellowship and a luncheon will immediately follow Mass, and burial will be held at a later date. Jeff’s final resting place will be the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Plum City. Memorials honoring Jeffrey Kulow may be given to the River Falls Public Library.
