Jeffrey T. ”Jeff”” VanSomeren, age 47 of Hudson WI, died at home surrounded by his family on Sunday morning, April 13, 2014.
Jeff was born October 4, 1966 in Willmar, MN to parents Lloyd and Dolores (DeYong) VanSomeren. He attended Greenfield Elementary in Baldwin, WI, and graduated from Baldwin-Woodville High School in 1985. Jeff went on to earn a Bachelors Degree from UW-Stout. He was united in marriage to Laurel Gunderson on October 24, 1992 at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville, WI. Together they have two beloved sons, Alex and Christopher. Jeff worked at Helgeson Enterprises, having held several positions there.
Jeff had a strong faith that God was his Rock and his Salvation. After receiving a lung transplant in January of 2006, he described himself as being “blessed” and didn’t want anyone to lose their faith in spite of difficult situations like his. Jeff lived years past what the doctors expected him to, allowing him to enjoy life and spend more time with his sons. He found relaxation in riding motorcycles, golfing with his father and nature and wildlife photography.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 21 years, Laurel; sons, Alex and Christopher; mother, Dolores “Dee”; sisters, Elaine (Randy) Obbink, Shareen Kamp, Janel VanSomeren; nieces and nephew, Sydney Obbink, Joelle and Thomas Kamp; mother-in-law, Bonnie Gunderson. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd, brother-in-law, John Kamp; and father-in-law, Dennis Gunderson.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 So. Eleventh Street in Hudson.
