Joan McDiarmid Wilburn, age 80, passed away in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.  Joan was born in Cumberland, WI. October 5, 1932 and was the daughter of Ben and Iola McDiarmid of Hudson.   Joan graduated from Hudson High School in the early 50’s.  Immediately, upon graduation she enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, TX. where she spent her entire tour of duty.  Joan met and married her husband Thomas Roach, while in the military.   She enjoyed traveling and saw a great deal of the world when he changed duty stations during his 20+ years in the service.  Joan’s second marriage was to Merle Wilburn of Alice Texas.  They also spent many years traveling until they retired in La Grange, TX.  Following the death of her second husband Joan moved to Arlington, TX to be close to her daughter.     

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Iola, her sister Rachel McDiarmid and both her husbands, Thomas Roach and Merle Wilburn.  Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Gaylen Capps of Arlington, TX, her son Larry Roach of  Marine on St. Croix, MN, grandchildren Brandon and Phillip Roach, her sister and brother-in- law, Gurtie and Stanley Berkner of Lake St. Croix Beach, MN, two nephews Alan and Karl Berkner; Karl’s wife Joella and their son Kaspian.  

Graveside service will be at Willow River Cemetery on June 15 at 10:00 am with Fr. Guy Usher officiating. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Homes.
