John E. Steen

John Ellwood Steen, 83, of Roberts, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016 in Hammond, Wisconsin.

Born on March 25, 1933 in St. Paul MN to Alvin E. and Ruby S. Steen, John lived In Cumberland, Wisconsin andLived  in Roberts Wisconsin for 27 years  with his wife Mary.

Volunteering for the Air Force, John served with distinction in the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic in Japan. Following the war, he began working at Buckbee-Mears in St. Paul, Minnesota. He worked there 37 years until his retirement.

John enjoyed being outdoors, time spent with family and friends, playing pool, witty banter with friends or strangers, the Green Bay Packers, and driving the dunebuggy that he and Mary built, on many road trips. An animal lover, John had many canine companions throughout his life – including his childhood dog Pal, and black Labradors Cindy and Bear.

John is survived by his wife Mary of 46 years, children Andrea (Vern) Severson of Turtle Lake, Mitch (Roxy) Steen of New Richmond, Sandy (Don) Eckenstedt of Barron, Vince Steen of Barron, Alison (Ken) Werner of Woodville, Nathan (Cory) Steen of Hudson, and Eric (Laura) Steen of Duluth, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
 
A memorial gathering to celebrate John’s life will be held on Monday , May 30th from 3:00 to 7:00PM at the Hammond Town Hall.
