John Huntly Cudd III

John Huntly Cudd, III, age 93 of River Falls, WI died January 12, 2016 at Kinnic Health & Rehab in River Falls. He was born on April 13, 1922, to parents John Huntly Cudd and Hannah Louise (Johnson) Cudd. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister’s Helen, Alice and Arlene and brother’s Walter, Herbert, Paul, Tom, Gene, and Grandson Christopher.
He is Survived by his wife of 68 years Dorothy, children Doug (Kathy), Jack (Rita), David (Rebecca), and Cathy O’Connell; Grandchildren Stacy (Conrad) Ertz, Jesse (Kathleen) Cudd, Nick (Sarah) Cudd, Brady (Brandy) Cudd, Patrick O’Connell, Collin Cudd, and Logan Cudd and by Great Grandchildren Mikayla, Jesse Jr., Jackson, Kaitlyn, Quinn, Addison, Caden, Peyton, Sam, Talen, Chloe And Sydney, Sisters-in-law Janet, Dorothy and Romaine, and many nieces and nephews.
John went to school through the 8th grade when he began working on the family farm. He farmed with his father until he married Dorothy Gipford of Ellsworth in 1948. He hauled milk to the Prescott Creamery, worked at the River Falls Creamery, farmed for 8 years, and finally worked in construction until retirement at 65, finishing his last home at the age of 78.
A man who loved nature, John planted tens of thousands of trees during his life and was named Pierce County Tree Farmer of the Year.
He loved camping with family and friends, and later motor-home trips with Dorothy, exploring many states, frequently visiting his daughter in Arizona. Deer hunting at the cabin at Timberland with friends, relatives, his sons and grandsons was great fun for him. He was named “Fan of the Year” 2010-2011 for attending years of RFHS wrestling, and then following college wrestling, his grandsons excelling in the sport. He loved nothing better than a game of cards, anytime, anywhere and winning most of the time! What a good man he was.
Memorials for John will be dedicated to special projects at Ezekiel Lutheran Church by his Family.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, 1/16/16, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, River Falls. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Friday, 1/15/16, at the church and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls.
