September 29, 1930 – August 19, 2014

John passed away on August 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on the family farm in Manly, Iowa, the son of Clair and Evelyn McKercher.

He grew up in Manly, IA and graduated in 1948 from the Manly High School. In the fall he enrolled at the University of Iowa. John joined the USAF in 1951 and was stationed primarily in Panama. Following his military service, he returned to the University of Iowa earning a bachelors degree in electronic engineering. Following graduation he joined the Sundstrand Corporation retiring as Vice President. His work took him to many places around the world.

John was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan, and also enjoyed many sporting events, golfing, fishing, traveling, good conversation and good books.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marylyn Jensen; his second wife, Josephine Reardon; and his sister, Margaret McKercher Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Snyder, whom he met at a Mayo Legacy Meeting in 1999; his sister, Elinor (Dr. Charles) Sorensen of Boulder, Co; his brother, Dr. Theodore (Marletta) McKercher of Omaha, NE; nephews, nieces, many friends, and his loyal dog, Reggie.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St in Hudson, WI. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
