John Peter Raleigh, age 76 of Somerset, passed away January 5, 2019 at Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN. John was born December 8, 1942 in Stillwater, MN to John Joseph and Alice Genevieve (Jacobson) Raleigh. He was the oldest son of eight children. John was a St. Paul Hill High School graduate. John furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin –River Falls, and later joined his mother and father in managing the River’s Edge Restaurant in Somerset.

John delighted in entertaining customers with his talented piano and accordion music. Some of his favorite tunes were paid tribute to his Irish heritage were, “Oh Danny Boy” and “When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” as well as the “Wedding Theme” from the Godfather. He was a wonderful bartender, known for his perfect and almost famous margaritas. John enjoyed his summers at River’s Edge, working outside with tubing customers, meeting new people, and engaging in good conversations. Outside of his work, John enjoying sipping on a good Brandy Stinger and cheering on his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. John’s life was blessed well with a caring family, a deep faith, and the wonderful support of dear friends.

John will remain in the hearts of his son, Jack Raleigh; sisters, Jeanne Fabiano and Janelle (Robert) Sutherland; sisters-in-law, Karen Raleigh and Celeste Raleigh; nephews, John, Daniel, and Todd Sutherland, and William Raleigh Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, William, Michael, and Patrick; sister, Mary Pat Schuna; brothers-in-law, Keith Schuna and Philip Fabiano.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 141 Church Hill Rd., Somerset, with Fr. Andy Anderson officiating. A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will take place at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson
