John Remmers

John William Remmers, age 72, of Tomahawk WI and formerly of Hudson WI and Balsam Lake WI, passed away on Sunday morning, December 26, 2010 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was born the son of Henry and Marie (Bongers) Remmers on March 24, 1938 in Tomahawk. John graduated from Tomahawk High School and went on to serve in the US Navy.

On March 12, 1966 he was united in marriage to Priscilla E. “Pat” Henry in Madison, WI. They settled in Verona, WI where they were blessed with three daughters: Sherri, Darci and Vicki. In 1974, the family moved to Hudson. John worked for WI Bell Phone Company as a central office technician until his retirement in 1991. In 1992, John and Priscilla moved to Balsam Lake. There, John worked part time in the maintenance department of Unity School. In 2002 the couple moved back to John’s family farmstead in Tomahawk.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a woodworker and he liked to “putter.” John also had fun playing cards, any game but especially Solitare, Cribbage and Euchre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; parents, Henry and Marie Remmers; parents-in-law, F. Lloyd and Jeanette Henry; sister, Lilian Hansen; and brother, Edward Remmers.

John is survived by his daughters: Sherri (Dean) Munkelwitz of Clayton, Darci (Rob) Ward of Hammond, and Vicki (Jeff) Brathal of Hudson; seven grandchildren: Samantha & Derek Munkelwitz, Paige, Shane & Nathan Ward; Kelsey & Jake Brathal; sister, Eleanor (George) Schuetz of Tomahawk; brothers-in-law, H. Hansen of Waterford WI and Warren (DeAnn) Henry of Edon OH; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held for John on Thursday, January 6th from 4 until 7:00pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 10 – 11:00, at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, 539 Southgate Dr, in Tomahawk. Pastor Mark Gass will officiate and military honors will be provided by the Tomahawk VFW. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Homes & Countryside Crematory.
