Joseph Murphy, age 88, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, passed away on the morning of September 26 at the Highland Chateau Health Care Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. 

Joseph is survived by three daughters, Kathy Whiteside of St. Paul, MN, Kelly Murphy, Cottage Grove, MN & Kimberly Murphy of Cottage Grove, MN; three grandchildren, Angela (Jim) Eichinger of Wyoming, MN, Michael Smith of St. Paul, MN, and Emily Smith of Denver, CO; three great-grandchildren, Tahner, Landon and Madeline Eichinger and sister, Geneva (Dan) Shannon of Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; son, Michael; sister, Carol and brother-in-law, Bob.

Joseph enjoyed playing poker and cribbage.  He was very involved in horticulture and enjoyed raising flowers and vegetables in his garden.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will take place at 11am on Wednesday, September 26 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in St. Paul Park, Minnesota.  Burial will take place after at the East Cottage Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.  Memorials are preferred.  Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson Chapel.  715.386.3725
