Judith (Judy) E. Newton, age 86 of Baldwin, formerly of Hammond left us peacefully on February 7, 2025. Born on April 8, 1938, in Baldwin Judy grew up on a farm just north of Baldwin, where the values of hard work, faith and community were instilled in her from a young age.

A proud graduate of Baldwin High School, Judy went on to make a significant impact in the Hammond community, where she resided for many years. Known for her vibrant personality and warm heart, she was deeply involved in various community activities and developments. Judy shared her life with her beloved husband, John, whom she married on April 18, 1959, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Together, they owned and operated Hammond Grocery from 1959 to 1986. Judy was also instrumental in establishing Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond in 1972 and was one of the original founders of the Hammond Golf Course.

She worked at Northwest Airlines, Baldwin Creamery, and the St. Croix County Register of Deeds, leaving a legacy of friendship and kindness in every role she undertook. Judy enjoyed solving puzzles, golfing, and going on vacations with John. They cherished summers spent in Minocqua; and retirement years in gulf Shores, Alabama. Since 2019, Judy found great joy in reading over 750 books.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, grandson Luke, sisters Norma, Carol & Karen; parents Irmegarde & Edward; many brothers & sisters-in-law.

Judy is survived by her children Jayne (Dave) Murphy, Jay (Barbie), Jennifer (Louie) Johnson; grandchildren Michael (Ashley), Jake (Samantha), Ricky (Dana), Sami (Joe), Joey (Mariah), Jon (Shaunna), Zach (Grace), Logan (Kamryn); great-grandchildren McKenna, Gordon, Henley, Sullivan, Lilly, Leona, Liam, Layla, Harper; many nieces & nephews; brother & sister in-law Marlys & Duane Newton.

Visitation 10-11 AM with 11 AM Memorial service on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1250 Broadway St. Hammond. Burial Hammond Cemetery.

Funeral Services entrusted to O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.

  2. Where do I start? I adored Judy. For one thing I believe I was named after her because our mother loved her. I will never forget our family get togethers when we were kids. So many wonderful memories. Prayers to my extended cousins that I think of as my first cousins. Love you all

    I haven’t seen or talked to you in years – but take comfort that your mother, and father, too, leave lasting memories for A LOT of people, including me, An unforgettable legacy and reminder of the value of your hometown, and the wonderful people who are part of it.

I am beyond words saddened to hear of your Mom/Judy’s passing…heck, she was like my 2nd Mom in the neighborhood when we were all growing up! 🙂 I have SO many wonderful memories of her and her gentle kindness for everyone..& her beautiful smile & laugh.
