Kathryn Janet Krauss Long, 92, of North Hudson, Wisconsin, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 after a brief stay at the St. Croix County Health Care Campus in New Richmond, Wisconsin. She was born November 21, 1931 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Gottlob Krauss and Gladys (Fair) Krauss. As a college student she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior.
Kathy attended school in Monroe, WI, graduating from Monroe High School in 1949. She was the middle of three sisters, each one year apart. She excelled academically, graduating as the Valedictorian, and in music, playing the piano, organ, and oboe.
After high school, she attended Milton College, majoring in music education. Upon graduation in 1953, she began teaching music at Richland Center High School. There she met Leland Long, also a new teacher. They married in 1957.
Kathy and Lee left Richland Center in 1959 so Lee could pursue a master’s degree from UW-Madison in speech pathology and audiology. They settled in Janesville WI where Lee worked as a speech pathologist in the Janesville, WI Public Schools.
While living in Janesville, Kathy and Lee started a family, raising two boys. Together they helped start Bethel Baptist Church. Kathy played piano and organ for countless church services over the years.
Upon moving to Janesville, Kathy initially worked at the Rock County Courthouse and the Parker Pen company. She then devoted herself full time to managing their household and raising their children. When her boys were older and in school, she began working part time at Vumore Cable as a bookkeeper, and over the years this evolved into a full-time role as an accountant at Total TV and Jones Intercable. After Jones moved their operations to Denver, Kathy worked a variety of jobs, eventually becoming the executive assistant to the president of Blackhawk Technical College, and held this role for 10 years until her retirement in 1996.
In 1996, Kathy and Lee moved to North Hudson Wisconsin to be closer to their children and grandchildren. While living in Hudson, Kathy remained active, volunteering as a pianist for the Home Meal and delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors.
Kathy is survived by her sons Cedric (Karen) Long, Maplewood, MN, and Creighton (Roslynn) Long, Burnsville, MN; grandchildren, Lindsey Long, Rochester, MN, Lucas Long, Blaine MN, and Heather and Amanda Long, Burnsville, MN.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Leland, her parents, two sisters, Virginia Hearn and Mildred Meythaler, and other relatives.
Interment was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum, Janesville. WI.
A memorial service will be held on November 16th, 2024, at North Haven Church in North Saint Paul, MN with visitation at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am.
Dear Cedric, Creighton & your families, Your mom and dad were such wonderful, caring, polite and Christian people and life-long friends to my parents (Maurice and Lorraine). My dad taught high school in Richland Center along with Kathy in the early 1950’s. I have happy memories of our two families sharing a cabin for a week at Camp Forest Springs in the mid-1970’s. You have our sympathies and prayers, Brian & Sandy Ewing
