Kevin J. Smith

Kevin James Smith, age 61 of Hudson, died peacefully October 9, 2015 at a Brotoloc Care Facility in New Richmond.  

Kevin was born on January 14, 1954 in Hudson, the son of Bob and Betty (Grady) Smith. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1972. Kevin grew up working in his father’s restaurant, Bob Smith’s Sports Club. Kevin, his brother Dana, and their father worked long hours alongside one another at the restaurant. In 1981, Kevin was united in marriage to Patty Lee. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Lindsey, but the marriage would later dissolve. On August 16, 1992, Kevin married Cindy Kirchner in River Falls. Kevin continued to operate his family’s restaurant until 2004 when he had a debilitating stroke.

Most of Kevin’s life revolved around the Sports Club, where he managed along with his brother, Dana, and was later joined by his wife, Cindy. When he was not at the restaurant he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, shooting trap and playing pool. He had a deep love of Rock & Roll music, and enjoyed playing on either his drum set or guitar. After his stroke, Kevin loved to be visited by his granddaughters who clearly filled him with joy. Kevin also loved outings with his family and going for rides in his pickup truck.

Kevin will remain in the hearts of his beloved daughter, Lindsey (Nicholas) Campeau of New Richmond; granddaughters, Hailey and Hannah Campeau; wife, Cindy Smith (nee Kirchner) of Hudson; sister, Peggy Wolff of Hudson; brother, Dana (Jeanne) Smith of Hudson; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Mark; brother-in-law, Kent Wolff; and nephews, Craig Wolff, Eric Larson; great-nephews, Michael Larson and Matthew Larson.

A Celebration of Life for Kevin will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. The family encourages everyone to wear Sports Club attire (shirts, jackets, hats, ect…) Private interment at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Memorials are preferred.
