Kevin Vance

Kevin James Vance, age 60 of Hudson WI, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, October 24, 2015. Kevin was born June 3, 1955 in Princeton MN to parents Thomas and Dorothy (nee Allison) Vance. Kevin graduated from Princeton High with the Class of 1973, and went on to earn his Bachelors degree at St. Cloud State University.

Kevin’s first job out of college was for the Elmer Anderson Foundation, and also with the Rum River Citizens League. Kevin later set out with passion as an entrepreneur with the purchase of his own restaurant franchise in 1982, the Taco Johns in Menomonie. It was there that he would meet his wife, Rita. They would be united in marriage on February 11, 1986, and their union would be blessed with three children; Ali, Ben and Will.

Kevin lived by the words of legendary Jedi Master, Yoda, who wisely said “Do. Or do not.  There is no try.” Kevin did just that with all that he embarked upon. He strived for service to others and to his community with his involvement in many local boards and foundations, and organizations such as Rotary and Jaycees, and as a founding member of the Hudson Community Foundation. Kevin also served with the Hudson Planning Commission, the Hudson Water Utility Commission, and the Hudson Hockey Association. Outside of work, Kevin was a family man who enjoyed golfing, reading, adVanced photoshopping (pun intended) and his newest passion of model trains. Kevin’s love of family and love of community will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Rita; his children, Ali (Michael) Bennett, Ben Vance, and Will (Karlyn) Vance and his grandson Quinton; his siblings, Dennis (Kara) Vance, and Mike (Sue) Vance; his nephews, Eric (Lisa) McBroom, and Tom (Tammy) McBroom and their families; his in-laws from the Steinberger family who loved him like a brother; and countless friends, business partners and loved ones who came to know Kevin over the last 25 years in Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy; and sister, Deborah.

Funeral Services celebrating the life of Kevin Vance will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 14107 Hudson Rd S, in Afton, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, and also from 4:00-7:00pm on Sunday, November 1 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th Street S. in Hudson WI. Kevin will be laid to rest at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Kevin and Rita Vance Family Scholarship Fund, affiliate of the Hudson Community Foundation which grants educational scholarships to local youth, 516 2nd St. Suite 214, Hudson, WI 54016. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson WI. 715-386-3725
