Larry D. Reynolds

Larry Dean Reynolds, age 85 of Ellsworth and formerly of Bay City, died on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2020. Larry was born at the family farm in Ellsworth Township on August 11, 1935 to parents Wilbur and Mae (Wenum) Reynolds. Like so many of his generation, Larry attended country school. After school, Larry went to work around the farm. Larry suffered a fall while working for the Pierce County Highway Department during construction of the former Eisenhower Bridge in Red Wing around 1959. On June 10, 1961, he was united in marriage to Mary LaVona Wirth. They enjoyed over 42 years of marriage until her passing in March of 2004.

Larry worked for many years hauling milk, and also for the Jacques Seed Company. When not at work, Larry enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, snowmobiling, and 3-wheeling. Larry and LaVona also enjoyed camping, and going to the cabin in Cushing. Together, they raised horses and spent time trail riding, as well as operating horse stables at Lutsen and the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota. Though Larry and LaVona never had children of their own, they cherished time spent with their nieces and nephews and all of their families throughout the years.

Larry is survived by his nephews, Chris (Judy) Hoyer, Alan (Lori) Hoyer, and Fred (Mary) Hoyer; his niece, Darcy (Boone) Peterson; and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVona; his parents, Wilbur and Mae; his brother, Jim; and his sister, Barbara (Albert) Hoyer.

Services honoring the life of Larry Dean Reynolds will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, August 27th at the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home, 130 N Grant St in Ellsworth, with Rev. Fr. Jerry Harris officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:00pm. Larry’s final resting place will be at the St Bridget Catholic Cemetery in River Falls WI. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth, WI. 715-273-4421
