Lawrence “Gordon” Olsen

Lawrence “Gordon” Olsen, age 79 of Hudson, died peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Gordon was born on June 6, 1939 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Lawrence and Lorna (Swedenborg) Olsen. He attended Jackson Elementary prior to graduating from Harbor High School with the Class of 1957. He then furthered his education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He spent his working years in Industrial Management; most recently for Scientific Molding Company in Somerset until his retirement. On July 20, 1963, Gordon was united in marriage to Carole Braden. This union would later be blessed with two children; Eric and Elizabeth.

Gordon enjoyed the outdoors. He appreciated the beauty of a quiet lake in northern Wisconsin fishing for walleye or an elusive musky. He also enjoyed time spent in Canada catching trophy northerns. He took pleasure in working outside at the house and giving everything his chainsaw could handle cutting wood. He volunteered throughout his life, most notably as a scout master for the Boy Scouts and girls softball coach. He enjoyed reading Civil War history and and touring battlefield sites. He collected elegant glass and belonged to the Fostoria Collectors Association.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carole; children Elizabeth (David) Musicant, Eric (Jennifer) Olsen; grandchildren Evan, Rachel, Andrew; siblings Marilyn Wilson, Lois (Jim) Hanna, Tom (Betty) Olsen, Richard (Sandy) Olsen, Jeanette (Mike) Morath, John (Elaine) Olsen; step siblings Howard Pardee Jr., and Lorraine Bell; as well as other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lorna Olsen; and his step-father Howard Pardee.

A Funeral Service for Gordon will be held at 11AM Monday, January 28 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11thSt., Hudson, WI. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Willow River Cemetery with active casket bearers being Richard Olsen, John Olsen, Tom Olsen, David Braden, Mike Morath, and Jim Hanna. Memorials are preferred to Lakeview Hospice who helped him live his last days with great dignity. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI.
