Leon Armistice Berenschot

Leon Armistice Berenschot, 84, of Glenwood City, WI, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Glenhaven Nursing Home & Rehab Center, Glenwood City, WI surrounded by his family.

Leon was born on November 11, 1930, in rural Amery to Leon H. and Louise (Seekins) Berenschot.
He attended grade school at East Lincoln, Oakview, Deronda, and Amery. Leon was a 1949 graduate of Amery High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and later served in the reserves. Leon married LaRae Lark of Downing on April 1, 1951, they later divorced.

Leon worked at the Amery Super Value and later managed the Amery D.Q., until being appointed by Ripon Foods, Inc. as a Ripon Good Cookie sales person. In 1965 Leon resigned as president of Ripon Good Cookie Co. Inc., of Indiana. Leon and his family moved to Glenwood City, Wisconsin where he was hired by a division of the Coca Cola Beverage Co. as district manager. Later he worked for the Nestle Co. as a Jobber Specialist. Both Coca Cola and Nestle were international companies. In 1967 Leon was appointed by American Family Insurance as an agent. He served American Family for 28 years in Glenwood City.

Leon married Marie (Aspen) Hill on August 23, 1986 in Colfax.

In January of 1996 Leon was appointed to the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors, representing Glenwood City. He served on the board for eight years, serving on the personnel committee, health and human Services, soil and water conservation and, U.W. Extension committees, later serving as president of the state U.W. Extension, St. Croix County Fair Board and he also served as chairman of the W.2 committee. Leon also served as vice president of the River Country Resource Conservation, vice president of the state Resource Conservation and a member of the St. Croix Industrial Development Corp. In Glenwood City he served on the city council and was past president of the following organizations: Community Club, Lions Club, Glen Hills Golf Club (founding member), G.C. Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and many other civic organizations. Leon was instrumental in bringing Scott Heinbuch, CPA and Jim Krave, attorney to Glenwood City.

Leon and his wife, Marie, owned and operated Home Town Crafts for many years and is currently in partnership with his son, Lane in the Quality Car Wash in Glenwood City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and crafting with his wife Marie.

Lane Berenschot and friend Debbie Keys, Glenwood City, WI;
Lori and her husband Erik Davidson, Menomonie, WI

Marie’s children: Scott and his wife Stacy Hill, Ellsworth, WI
DeAnn and her husband Dan Sobotta, Merced, CA;
Kendra and her husband Kyle Repaal, Colfax, WI

15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leon is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

His parents Leon and Louise, step-father Gaylord Anderson, son in-law David Fern and his brother LeRoy preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Leon will be 11:00am, on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Glenwood City, WI. Rev. Diane House will officiate. Burial will be in the Glenwood City Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call at the church on Friday from 4-8pm and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
