Leon Ray Ringstad, age 90, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the Western Wisconsin Health Center in Baldwin, WI. Leon was born August 15, 1928, the son of Arthur and Olive (Gwaltney) Ringstad. He was united in marriage to June Villman and together they had three children: Gary, Deanna, and Julie.

Leon loved music and dancing and met his future wife while dancing at the Gray Goose in Hersey, WI. Leon and June square danced for many years with the Bells and Beaus Square Dance Club where they made many good friends. He also had an innate skill for playing the accordion and piano without sheet music.

Leon served on the Springfield town board for 28 years and also helped to care for the Hersey cemetery for many years. He loved going to Ladysmith to visit his cousin Bob and his family. Other pastimes included fishing, hunting, listening to old time country and polka music, and enjoying nature while watching for deer and bears from his living room window.

Leon remains in the hearts of his wife, June; children, Deanna (Terry) McGee, Julie (Mark) Primoli; grandchildren, Brandon, Dustin (Jolee), Ben (Angela), Shannon (Matt) Dorwin, Matt (Mikayla), Camille, Angelica (Kyle) Kennedy, Shane (Brenda), Nathan, Breanne, their stepbrother, Danny Brandt; nephew, Clifford (Jeanine) Larson; seven great-grandchildren, as well as other extended family and numerous friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Olive, and son, Gary Ringstad.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI.
