Leonard J. Young

Leonard James Young, age 68 of Red Wing, Minnesota, formerly of Prescott passed away on February 28, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Red Wing, Minnesota. A retired Chief Boiler Operations Engineer for Koch Refinery and SB Foot Tanning, Leonard was born on December 12, 1954 to Joseph and Lorraine (Yauch) Young in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended Prescott High School graduating with the Class of 1972. In November of 1974, Leonard married Diane Wilson in Watertown, SD. This union blessed them with four children: Shanyn, Desiree, Paula, and James. Though their marriage dissolved in 1996, they remained friends throughout the years.

Leonard was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan, cheering on every game. He enjoyed playing a game of euchre, poker, or cribbage. He was an outdoorsman, loving to get out in the woods whenever he could, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. He was a jack of all trades, able to fix just about anything and enjoyed tinkering in his garage and completing various house projects. When not spending time in the great outdoors he was longing to spend time with his grandchildren. Leonard loved his family fiercely. They truly were his whole world.

Leonard is survived by his children, Shanyn (Jeffrey) Hovel, Desiree (Troy) Meduna, Paula (Andrew) Gottwalt, and James Young; grandchildren: Alyxis, Madison, Caitlyn, Matthew, Gage, Gabryel, Jerimyah, Gavin, Carter, Ava, and Baby Gottwalt; past-spouse: Diane Wilson; siblings: Joe Young, Linda Rowan, and Susie Flynn. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Lorraine Young, brother Kenny, sister Penny, nieces Angie and Nissi and nephew Chuckie.

A Celebration of Life will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, March 10, 2023 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home: 1339 Orrin Rd, Prescott, WI 54021.
