Leonard Miller

Leonard Francis Miller (age 88) of Lakeland, Minnesota passed away peacefully at Comforts of the Home Care Center in Hudson, Wisconsin on Friday, October 26, 2018. Leonard was born in Rogers, Minnesota on November 8, 1929 to Carl and Florence (Beltrand) Miller. Len was the second child after Norma (Curtin), who were subsequently joined by brothers and sisters: Phyllis (Jost), Ruthann (Deering), Dennis, and Douglas. Len grew up in Minnesota in Rogers, St. Francis, rural Anoka County, Dayton, and later St. Paul. Len lived his youth in the Rogers area, providing many memories including: boyhood adventures along the Rum river, rural transportation and weather challenges of the era, and the difficulties of the Great Depression. Later in life, Len was known for hobbies including skiing, flying (recreational pilot’s license), boating, waterskiing, financial investment, and involvement in the social clubs: Ullr Ski Club, Catholic Alumni Club, and the Minneapolis Dominics. He also had fond memories of travels to places including: Europe, South America, and Australia/New Zealand. Len was 50-year faithful parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. Len graduated from Johnson Senior High School in St. Paul. Len received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of St. Thomas in 1952 (where he competed in the track team), a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1974, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in 1981. Len worked as a chemist at Archer Daniels Midland Company (1952-1965) and later at the 3M Company (1966-1996). He has a patent from his work at 3M. In college, Len served in the Naval Air Reserve as an electronics technician for 8 years. Len married Judith Dady on August 7, 1971. Len is survived by his wife, Judy; sons David (Emily) and Bruce; sister, Ruthann; numerous nieces and nephews; and cat, Stripes. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Norma, Phyllis, Dennis, and Douglas. A visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018, with a memorial church service at 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family or to the American Heart Association.
